Mill City Ruins — Bridging Into The Past

Minneapolis Historical Site

Historical Infrastructure

The project is rooted in an empathetic and logical approach that derives from my initial impression of the site: so much to uncover, but so difficult to reach. By venturing off of sanctioned routes, I was able to experience the ruins in a much more intimate way. The design aims at enhancing visitor access and their rich interactions with the ruins through strategic accessible solutions, daring form-making, and excavation into forgotten ruins. Further, as a response to Mill City’s complex infrastructural history, the project aims to enhance the visitors holistic engagement of the site through the dichotomy of ‘sanctioned’ and ‘unsanctioned’ routes.

Exploration of site through the Nolli convention by strictly staying on sanctioned paths. The result is a very limited impression of the site.

Exploration of site through the Nolli convention by strictly staying on unsanctioned paths. The result is a much deeper and intimate experience of the site.
